Apprenticeship Is an Opportunity Multiplier

Figuring out what you’re going to do when you finish school can be overwhelming. But, through youth apprenticeship, you can see how combining education and career today can put you on multiple paths to success.

Whether you’re on your way to college, directly to a career, both, or simply aren’t sure, apprenticeship can help pave the way to a successful future! Check out the program guidelines, timeline, and steps to apply below to get started.

Program Guidelines

  • Program is open to students graduating in June 2023; must be on track to graduate to submit an application to an apprenticeship 
  • Applicants will be interviewed and hired at the employers’ discretion – interviews and apprenticeships are not guaranteed
  • Apprentices who meet Say Yes Buffalo Scholarship eligibility will receive assistance with higher education tuition 
  • All hired apprentices will have books and fees related to their higher education classes covered before financial aid is applied
  • Applicants who are under 18 at time of application need parent consent form completed
  • Applicants who do not meet Say Yes Buffalo Scholarship eligibility requirements will be responsible for the funding of any higher education tuition
  • Program requires a commitment of three years participating in the work and learn model – applicants will need to enroll in the selected higher education classes with our education partner(s) and have the option to add on the classes needed to earn an Associate’s by the end of the program
  • Some applicants must be 18 by their first day of work if required by employer 

STEPS TO APPLY

Program Timeline

September 2022 – March 2023

  • Meet with your career coach and guidance counselor to discuss post-graduation goals and youth apprenticeship program
  • Attend employer/education engagement events
  • Create your profile in the hub – your profile is your application!
  • Interview preparation with your career coach
  • Review pathways and occupations to determine the best apprenticeship for your interest and skills

January 3, 2023 – March 13, 2023

  • Review open apprenticeships
  • Submit applications
  • Reach out to your career coach with any application questions

February 1, 2023 – April 10, 2023

  • Interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis – if you wait to apply, you could miss out!
  • Offers will be made by April 10th
  • Talk to your career coach if you are made an offer! They are there to support you in the decision-making process.

July 2023

  • Bootcamp – this is a training that will help you get prepared to succeed during your apprenticeship!

August 2023

  • Work and school starts!
  • Be sure to keep your career coach’s contact information available – reach out to them whenever you need support!

WHAT’S THE CAREERWISE APPRENTICESHIP HUB?
The CareerWise Apprenticeship Hub is the platform you will use to explore and apply for apprenticeships. It’s just like a job board you may use to find any other job, but this one is just for CareerWise apprenticeships.

WHEN CAN I APPLY?
Starting in January 2023, you will have access to the CareerWise Apprenticeship Hiring Hub via the CareerWise website. You’ll be able to explore open apprenticeship opportunities then!

AM I ELIGIBLE?

You are almost ready to being your modern youth apprenticeship journey! But before you begin the preparation and application process, please answer the following questions:

  • Are you a senior or will be 18 at the start of your apprenticeship?
  • Do you have approval from your school counselor?
  • Do you attend a Buffalo Public or Charter High School?
  • Are you on track to graduate?
